ECP rules out early Senate elections

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled out the early Senate elections

It has become impossible to hold early Senate elections because the ECP has announced to hold by-elections on eight constituencies across country. The sources said that the Senate elections cannot conduct before completing by-elections.

The provincial governments will make arrangements for the by-elections, which will be held on six provincial and national seats. The by-elections will be held on three seats of Sindh Assembly and one each seat of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtnkhwa and Balochistan.

“The elections would be held on the time according to the law”, sources were quoted as saying. On March 11, half of the senators will retire and the election of the chairman and deputy chairman Senate will be held on March 12 and their oath on the same day.

The ECP has 30 days to conduct the Senate elections and it cannot hold the polls before the time. The ECP has the right to conduct the Senate polls between February 11 to March 11.
