ECP seeks withdrawal of parliament’s power to prepare nomination form
August 11, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has demanded the withdrawal of parliament’s power to prepare the nomination form, revealed sources. According to recommendations sent to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the ECP should have the power to get information from any candidate. It stated that the ECP has the power of preparing the nomination form in the past. “The Electoral Reforms Committee has made the nomination form part of the Election Act. After making nomination form part of the Election Act, the ECP cannot get complete information from candidates,” the ECP contended. It recommended that the nomination paper should be made part of the Rules after removing it from the Election Act. The Election Act has removed the candidate’s tax, cases, education and foreign tours from the nomination paper. Now the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is getting information from the candidates on affidavits on the order of the Supreme Court.
