Edict declares honor killing “un-Islamic”

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Issuing a religious edict, as many as 40 religious scholars of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have on Monday declared honor killing un-Islamic and biggest sin. According to the collective edict issued by the religious scholars of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Islam gives adult women right to marry the man she is in love with. Declaring killing in the name of honor a right thing is un-Islamic. The decree further stated that torching the girls or women for doing so, is against Islamic teachings and practices. The fatwa also urged the government to implement proper legislation in order to curb such crimes, and declare heinous acts such as burning or killing of woman as an unpardonable crime as it is an Islamic government's responsibility to protect women rights.
