Eight die as incessant rain, snowfall wreak havoc across country

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Six people were killed and 10 others injured due to incessant rain in several areas of the country on Thursday. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six people, including four children, were killed in roof collapse incidents. Seven people were injured in Arifwala. In Dadu, three people were wounded due to rain-related incidents. In Muzaffargarh, two students were killed when lightning struck them. Hailstorm hit several areas in Lahore, Multan, Peshawar and Hyderabad. The mountainous areas, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Quetta, Kalat, Ziarat and Upper Dir, received heavy snowfall. Earlier, the Met Office had predicted widespread rain with wind-thunderstorm in all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Hafizabad and Narowal districts from Wednesday to Saturday. It also forecast rain with dust-thunderstorm in Quetta, Zhob, Pashin, Harnai, Ziarat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Jacobabad and Larkana districts from Wednesday to Thursday. Dust raising winds are expected in lower Sindh including Karachi on Thursday and Friday. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, strong westerly weather system entered upper parts of the country on Wednesday and likely to grip upper and central parts on Thursday and persist till Saturday.
