Eight Pakistanis martyrs laid to rest in Christchurch graveyard: FO

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal on Friday said that eight Pakistanis, who were martyred in terror attack at mosques in New Zealand, have been buried in a local graveyard in Christchurch. Dr Mohammad Faisal took his twitter and said, “More than 20 family members flew from Pakistan to join in the last rituals of the martyrs. Their travel was facilitated by the Pakistan Foreign Office and the New Zealand government.”   In another tweet, he said, “The funeral was attended by more than 5000 people, of which there were about 1500 Muslims, who came from all over NZ. One remaining Shaheed Syed Areeb Ahmed would be repatriated to Pakistan in next few days. His family is being kept informed.” The body of Syed Areeb Ahmed would be repatriated to Pakistan in next few days and the martyr’s family was being kept informed, the spokesperson said. “Our High Commissioner and the High Commission staff remains in Christchurch to continue assistance to the bereaved families,” he further said. Earlier in New Zealand, at least 49 people were martyred and more than dozens injured when a gunman opened fire in a mosque in Christ Church city on Friday morning as Bangladesh cricket team safe in vicinity of shooting. New Zealand police were hunting an active shooter in the center of Christchurch city after a gunman opened fire at a mosque inflicting several casualties. A witness told media that a man dressed in a military-style, camouflage outfit, and carrying an automatic rifle had started randomly shooting people in the mosque. “A serious and evolving situation is occurring in Christchurch with an active shooter,” New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush said. “Police are responding with its full capability to manage the situation, but the risk environment remains extremely high.”
Bangladesh cricket team safe in vicinity of shooting
The Bangladesh cricket team was going to Friday prayers at the mosque, the Masjid Al Noor, when the shooting occurred but all members were safe, a team coach told Reuters. After the firing incident, Bangladeshi cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim took his twitter and said, “Alhamdulillah Allah save us today while shooting in Christchurch in the mosque…we r extremely lucky…never want to see this things happen again….pray for us.”
