ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The election for the slot of Punjab chief minister will be held on July 22, ruled the Supreme Court in the written order issued on Saturday.

The 10-page verdict authored by Justice Ejazul Hassan said that the session for the election of the chief minister should be called in the Punjab Assembly at 4pm.

It stated that the court hopes Hamza Shehbaz and Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi will abide by the assurances. It further said that the election to 20 seats in Punjab will be made transparent as per schedule.

Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari will preside over the session and will issue the notification after fulfilling all legal requirements.

Meanwhile, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi has paid a tribute to the chief justice, saying that the decision to hold the election for the chief minister after the by-election will strengthen democracy. "Inflation has made life a hell. The government has no policy to control inflation," he added.

Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi said that they are supporting the PTI candidates in the by-election.
