NA-122 rigging case: Election Tribunal rejects Ayaz Sadiq’s appeal against thumbprints' verification
March 11, 2015
LAHORE (92 News) – The Election Tribunal on Wednesday discarded National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s appeal against thumbprint verification of votes from National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in NA-122, 92 News reported. While presenting his petition to tribunal judge Kazim Malik, Ayaz Sadiq’s lawyer Asjad Saeed stated that the detailed report of NA-122 verdict contained various ambiguities, which include incorrect figure of rejected votes in the constituency. He requested the tribunal to remove his client's reservations over the report and clear all confusions in it. Defending his stance, he went on to inquire the tribunal about the grounds on which his client’s plea was being rejected. Also, he argued that only the Election Commission of Pakistan reserved the right to verify counterfoils, thus the NADRA cannot verify them. The tribunal rejected the plea and adjourned the hearing till March 18.
