ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) plea for suspending the judgment of the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding formation of eight election tribunals.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa heard the case pertaining to the formation of eight tribunals.

“Is it mandatory to make everything controversial? The solution to the issue would have been found had the chief minister and the chief election commissioner sit together. Here parliamentarians do not respect each other. The constitution is very clear in this regard. The ECP is empowered to form the election tribunals. We should let the work do whom it has been assigned,” the CJP remarked.

The court sent the matter of forming a larger bench on the appeals to the committee. It also sent notices to the attorney general. The SC also sought the details about the formation of tribunals in other provinces from the ECP.

On June 12, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad had ordered the constitution of eight election tribunals. The ECP had challenged the decision in the Supreme Court.
