Encroachments on drains main reason behind sewerage problems: NDMA chairman

KARACHI (92 News) – National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal said that the main reason behind the sewerage problems is encroachments on drains. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, he said that the prime minister had asked him to visit Karachi to review the situation in Karachi. "Water in a majority of areas had subsided when I reached here," he added. Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal said that the sewage problem cannot be resolved without long-term planning. "More rain is expected in August 7. The rain system will remain in the city during August24-26. We will move towards the resolution of the problem from the mid of September," he added.
