EOBI mega corruption scandal: Zafar Gondal summoned on May 9

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The court on Tuesday summoned, uncle of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spokesperson Nadeem Afzal Chan, Zafar Gondal on May 9 over mega corruption scandal in Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI). It is pertinent to mention here that Zafar Gondal was served as former EOBI chairman. However, the former EOBI chairman is brother of former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Nazar Gondal. He served as EOBI chairman in the tenure of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and charges of 44 billion corruption cases. According to the reports, the Islamabad special judge central will hear the nine cases against Zafar Gondal on May 9. It was also alleged that Zafar Gondal purchased the land in Chakwal and caused billion rupees losses to national exchequer. The former EOBI chairman was alleged for causing Rs44 billion loss to the national exchequer through underhand land deals. Gondal allegedly violated the investment rules of EOBI to buy lands in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi at exorbitant prices. Earlier in the previous tenure of government, he has been sacked from his office after charges of corruption and misconduct were proved against him. It should be mentioned here that former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi approved his dismissal from the service. The PM House confirmed saying the charges of corruption and misconduct were proved beyond doubt.
EOBI scandal: Zafar Gondal’s bail plea rejected, court forwards
Earlier, Islamabad High Court rejected the bail plea of Zafar Gondal. As per details, the court forwarded the case for interrogation to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Zafar Gondal is charged to have embezzled millions as the chairman of EOBI during the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) tenure 2008-13.
