LONDON (Web Desk) The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has announced a 90-day pause in the implementation of retaliatory tariffs on imports from the United States (US).
Ursula von der Leyen says that she has taken note of US President Trump’s announcement of a pause in the implementation of tariffs and wants to give the negotiations another chance.
She also said that the European Union’s retaliatory measures have the full support of the member states, adding, “But we have decided to postpone these measures for 90 days.”
It should be noted here that the European Union approved the imposition of a 25 percent retaliatory tariff on the US yesterday.
These tariffs were imposed in response to the duties imposed by the US on European steel and aluminum last month.
The US products on which the tariffs were imposed included poultry, rice, corn, fruits and nuts, wood, motorcycles, plastics, textiles, paintings, and electrical appliances.
According to a foreign news agency, most of the products on which the tariffs were imposed are manufactured in Republican-majority US states.
