Ex-finance minister Shaukat Tareen moves SC against NAB Ordinance

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Former finance minister Shaukat Tareen has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, challenging the NAB Ordinance. In the petition, he contended that the NAB Ordinance had become obsolete under Articles 89 and 270-AA of the Constitution. He stated that it is against the basic rights to shift the burden of proving his innocence onto the accused. Shaukat Tareen pleaded that the NAB Ordinance was not provided protection in the 18th Amendment. “The SC had not given any observation against me in the Rental Power case. During the NAB investigations, my corruption and participation was not proved. As the finance minister, I opposed the rental power and resigned,” he contended. He stated that the NAB Executive Board had not decided to include his name in the reference as an accused. “Later, my name was included in the reference,” he added. He pleaded that the NAB reference against him should be declared null and void. He demanded that the NAB Ordinance should be nullified in the light of Articles 89 and 270-AA.
