Faizabad Sit-In Case: SC expresses dissatisfaction over govt report

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction on the report submitted by the government on Faizabad Interchange sit-in. The apex court resumed hearing of suo moto notice of religious parties’ sit-in at the main entry point of the capital city. During the proceedings, the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior submitted a detailed report in the apex court over the religious parties’ sit-in at the main entry point of the twin cities. The top court expressed dissatisfaction on the report submitted by the government. The court further asked how the country will manage to function if such a situation persists. “If something happens yet again tomorrow, will [they] close down cities again?” he asked. Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf said that the government don’t want bloodshed in the country and steps were being taken to disperse the protesters. The court later adjourned the hearing until next week. On the other hand, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has adjourned the hearing of Faizabad Interchange sit-in case. The hearing was adjourned due to indisposition of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui. Routine life remained disrupted as protesters belonging to religious parties, continued their sit-in for the 18th consecutive day on Thursday, blocking Faizabad Interchange despite a notice by the Supreme Court. Religious groups have been staging over two-week-long protest at Faizabad Interchange, the main entry point of the capital city. Despite talks between the two sides, a deadlock persists between the authorities and protesters over the Faizabad blockade. The protesters are demanding the resignation of federal law minister Zahid Hamid over an amendment to the oath election candidates must swear.
