Fake accounts case: Sindh govt files review plea in SC
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Sindh government on Friday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) pertaining to the fake bank accounts case.
The plea requested court to review paragraph 29-35 in the verdict announced on January 7 that ordered the removal of Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah from the exit control list.
“Shifting the hearing of fake bank accounts case to Islamabad will create problems,” the petition stated. “This will create hindrance in conducting a transparent trial.”
The petition also stated that all the inquiry records pertaining to the case should be handed over to National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Karachi division. “Further inquiries into the case should be carried out in Karachi.”
The submitted petition concluded that, “if a NAB reference is prepared then it should be submitted in Karachi.”
Earlier today, NAB submitted a progress report pertaining to the same case in the top court.
NAB reviews initial findings on fake accounts case
The National Accountability Bureau– after examining initial findings in the fake bank accounts case – constituted various teams to further investigate into the matter based upon an evidence-based approach.
According to the details garnered, NAB chairman (r) Justice Javed Iqbal presided over a high-level meeting in the bureau’s office in Rawalpindi. The meeting analysed various aspects of initial findings in the investigation and concluded that the Supreme Court directions in the fake account case.
Fake accounts case: Asif, Faryal file review petition against Jan 7 verdict
On Jan 28, PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur have decided to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the January 7 verdict in the fake accounts case. The petition will be filed on Monday.
According to the petition filed through Latif Khosa advocate, the FIA has failed to file the final challan in the banking court. Moreover, the JIT could not find direct evidence. “We want to take the matter to the logical end in a transparent way. The court formed a JIT on the request of the FIA and we appeared before the JIT and submitted a written reply,” it stated.
Asif Zardari and Faryal Talpur, in the petition, stated that JIT submitted the report to the Supreme Court without listening to their stance.
They said that the JIT report was based on assumptions and the JIT had recommended further probe into the matter. They demanded that the January 7 verdict be reviewed.
On January 7, the Supreme Court had ordered that the fake accounts case be forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and directed the anti-corruption watchdog to wrap up its investigation within two months.
The court also ordered that the names of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Shah be removed from both the exit control list and the joint investigation team’s report on a probe into the case.
