Fake Drugs Case: Allegations of supporting relative against RPO wrong, SC told

LAHORE (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday resumed hearing of fake medicines case in the apex court’s Lahore registry. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case against a fake medicine manufacturing company filed by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). During the proceedings, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer (RPO) Raja Riffat appeared before the court. Punjab IG told the court that the allegations against Bahawalpur RPO of supporting his relative over counterfeit drugs were wrong. Giving his remarks, the CJP said that according to his knowledge, the Raja Riffat supported his relative. He said that no one would be allowed to use their influence on the issue of fake medicines. In the previous hearing, Justice Saqib Nisar had ordered the Drug Regulatory Authority officer to seal the company and arrest the owner Usman. The court issued suspension orders of RPO Bahawalpur and demanded an inquiry about who was behind this inhumane business. CJ also ordered the Punjab Inspector General to start an inquiry against his DIG and submit a report. The CJP had also ordered proper investigation of the case. Owner of the company Usman denied all the claims and allegations against him, saying that he only provided cheap medicines and insisted that there were no substandard or unregistered medicines made in his company.
