Fake sim cards have become a big challenge for PTA, NADRA and FIA

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Fake sim cards have become a huge challenge for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

PTA has decided to introduce live finger detection (LFD) devices for issuing sim cards instead of bio metric devices. The instution has also adviced telecom operators to transfer on LFD step by step. Mobile operators have started verifying sim cards on LFD devices.

As many as 0.3 million sim card biometric centers will be transferred on LFD. According to PTA, till now 0.732 million fake sims have been identified. As many as 0.580 sims are on the name of those people who have died.

According to the sources of PTA, mobile operators and franchises are involved in the issuance of fake sim cards.

On the other hand, telecom operators identified deficiencies also in LFD devices. “We have received numerous complaints of LFD devices. Purchasing new biometric machine costs a lot. Buying new machines for every new system is very difficult,”complained telecom operators.

There are many costs involved in purchasing machines for biometric systems.
