Fake stents issue: Drug Registration Board's meeting called on Feb 6
February 2, 2017
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A two-day meeting of Central Drug Registration Board has been called on February 6. However, the meeting of Drug Regulatory Authority (DRA) on unregistered stents issue on Thursday ignored the pricing of the stents. The prices of stents of at least 55 registered companies have not been determined so far while the patients are forced to buy the stents at arbitrary rates. The Drug Board would review the registration of stents of five pharmaceutical companies. The registration of the companies providing standard stents would be approved in the meeting. However, the silence of the DRA regarding the pricing of stents is raising questions. The board’s 266th meeting would be held at the authority’s office in G-9/4 at 7:30am. Technical and pharmacy members, experts and provincial officials concerned would participate in the meeting. The representatives of Pakistan Pharma Bureau, Pakistan Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics besides representatives of Law Ministry, quality assurance, medical device and research directors have also been called in the meeting. According to sources, the companies are benefiting with crores of rupees as the prices of 55 types of already registered stents have not been determined. At least 55 types of stents are registered in Pakistan at the moment and every company costs them according to their wish.
