RAWALPINDI (92 News) – DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif has said that more chaos will spread in the country if the planners of May 9 incidents are given relaxation.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said that the Bannu incident occurred for not punishing the people involved in the May 9 incidents.

He said that the Pak Army’s response to the Bannu incident was according to the order and SOP. “Some people in the Bannu Peace March chanted slogans against the state and the Army besides pelting stones. Some people were armed in the crowd who resorted to firing. A wall was demolished and a ration depot was looted. A kilometre away from the incident some people opened fire. After the May 9 tragedy, the anarchist group said why the army had not stopped the groups and opened fire. A narrative was floated that the army had itself brought them as it had not opened fire on them,” he added.

The DG ISPR said that a warning is issued and then aerial fire is opened when an attacker approaches a military installation. “Later, they are treated as they should be treated,” he added.

It’s shameful to do politics on Operation Azm-e-Istehkam

DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said that it is shameful to do politics on the Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

He said that a very important issue is being made a political issue. “It is our tragedy that serious issues are made political. There are no-go areas in Pakistan. A strong lobby wants that the objectives of the Azm-e-Istehkam should not be achieved. The Azm-e-Istehkam is not an operation, but it is an concerted campaign against terrorists,” he added.

War against terrorism part of country’s survival

Lt Gen Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said that the war against terrorism had become part of the country. “False propaganda against the Pak Army has significantly increased. Fascism will further spread if planners of the May 9 incidents are not brought to justice.”

The DG ISPR said that the campaign against the Army and its leadership on social media is digital terrorism. “Real terrorists and digital terrorists are in fact doing the same work,” he maintained.

22,409 IBOs conducted this year

He said that Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are facing terrorism most of all. “The law enforcement agencies are conducting 112 operations daily. About 4-5 operations are conducted in each hour. The armed forces conducted 22,409 intelligence-based operations during this year. During these operations, our 137 jawans embraced martyrdom. 398 terrorists, including 31 high-value terrorists, have been sent to hell,” he added.

He said that there were about 32,000 religious seminaries in the country. “Of them, only 16,000 seminaries are registered,” he added.

Illegal Trade on Afghan Border

DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said that illegal trade is promoted on the Afghan border. “There are lacs of non-custom paid vehicles and terrorists use these vehicles. Trade worth billions of rupees is being done through non-custom paid vehicles. The Afghan border touches six countries. In five countries, people travel through passports and visas. The protest started when the government enforced the one-document regime. The protesters were only demanding that they should be allowed smuggling. The money gained through the nexus of terrorism and crime can be spent on social media,” he declared.

Army’s role in TLP sit-in rejected

DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif rejected the Army’s role in the sit-in staged recently by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). “The government and the institution tried to resolve the issue through dialogues keeping in view the sensitivity of the issue. But propaganda was started the army had brought them. It will be stated that army had made them to sit if the Jamaat-e-Islami stages a sit-in or some another group stages protest,” he added.

He said that the government had always raised voice over the Palestine issue.
