MUMBAI (Web Desk) Fawad Khan is set to return to Bollywood with the romantic drama Abir Gulaal, co-starring Vaani Kapoor, slated for release on May 9.
The teaser, featuring the pair vibing to the iconic song "Kuch Na Kaho" from 1942: A Love Story, has generated excitement among fans, especially as it marks Khan's first Bollywood film since Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016.
However, the film's release faces opposition from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a regional political party led by Raj Thackeray.
The MNS has strongly opposed the film’s screening in Maharashtra, with spokesperson Ameya Khopkar warning, "No film will be allowed to release here featuring Pakistani artists."
Despite this, Abir Gulaal has garnered significant attention, and the film's makers are hopeful for a successful release. Khan’s return comes after the Bombay High Court dismissed an official ban on Pakistani artists in 2023, paving the way for his re-entry into Indian cinema.
