ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has termed the call of Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif for holding All Parties Conference (APC) on electoral reforms as absolutely ridiculous.

In a statement, Fawad Chaudhry said Shehbaz Sharif has bypassed the parliament over the issue of electoral reforms and due legislation.

He questioned that how can the people who are in the habit of election rigging can give suggestions over holding of fair and transparent elections.

The information minister further said that the PML-N president has coined a new story after the failure of Pakistan Democratic Movement.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has written a letter to the government, raising objections against the electoral reforms.

The letter written to the parliamentary secretary on Saturday stated that several sections of the Elections Act passed by the National Assembly are contradictory to the constitution.

Moreover, it stated that the proposal to demarcate constituencies on the basis of voters, not population is also contrary to the constitution. "The conduct of the Senate election through open voting instead of secret is against the opinion of the Supreme Court," the letter added.

It said that the ECP, according to the constitution, has the power of the voters list.

The letter also demanded that matter pertaining to the constitution should be brought to the notice of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
