FBR chief claims no new tax in budget, gives challenge to identify if any
July 8, 2019
FAISALABAD (92 News) –Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi Monday said that no new tax had been imposed in the federal budget 2019. He gave a challenge to anyone to identify if there was any new tax in the budget. Sales tax registration for traders and others had been automated, Zaidi informed a gathering in Faisalabad. He said the government was seriously considering taking steps to check smuggling, under-invoicing and abuse of Afghan Transit Trade (AFT) agreement, adding  those steps were important to help the local industry stand on its own feet. “We have to move towards industrialization to generate job opportunities for the people.” Shabbar Zaidi said the tax returns for the year 2018-19 can be filed by 2nd of next month. He said the government's assets declaration scheme received an encouraging response from across the country. Zaidi said after assuming the charge of his office he had issued first order of not freezing bank accounts of anyone, adding those who had been found harassing the traders shouldn’t remain in the department. About transfers in FBR, he said only officials from grade 1 to 15 had been transferred and posted and that the new FBR would continue its goals with the available staff. “The FBR rules are clear about posting tenure of three years.” “We are making efforts to implement on Section 114 of the tax returns,” Zaidi concluded.
