BURBANK (Web Desk) The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it will investigate the diversity efforts at the Walt Disney Company, including its subsidiary ABC, amid concerns that these practices may violate equal employment opportunity regulations.
The investigation is part of a broader initiative by the Trump administration to curtail diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programmes in both public and private sectors.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, expressed concerns in a letter to Disney CEO Robert Iger, alleging that the company’s DEI policies may not comply with FCC regulations.
Carr stated that Disney’s focus on promoting race and gender diversity had potentially influenced many of its decisions in ways that could be deemed discriminatory.
The investigation follows similar inquiries into other media companies, including Comcast and NBCUniversal, as part of the Trump administration's ongoing push to end DEI programmes.
Disney, which has faced criticism from conservative circles over its diversity initiatives, has yet to comment on the investigation but stated it will cooperate with the FCC’s inquiry.
This move comes as part of the broader political landscape, where the Trump administration has sought to dismantle DEI efforts across various sectors, claiming they lead to discriminatory practices.
