Federal Budget 2019-20: 10% increase in salaries for govt employees

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – 10 percent increase in the salaries of those from Grade 1 to 16 was announced Tuesday as the Budget 2019-20 was presented by State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar. In his budget speech, the state minister termed the budget development as ‘historic and voluntary’. He announced a revision in the salaries of the civil servants, with a 10 percent increase in the salaries of those from Grade 1 to 16, as well as employees of Pakistan's armed forces.

No hike in the salaries of civilian govt employees

However, there was no hike in the salaries of civilian government employees from Grades 21 and 22, including the prime minister and the president, as they had voluntary decided against it. A 10 percent ad hoc relief on the running basic pay scales for government employees from Grade 1 to 16 was also announced by Azhar. The government also announced a five percent ad hoc relief on the running basic pay scales of government employees from Grade 17 to 20. The ad hoc relief would be based upon basic pay scales of 2017. Pensioners would also get an ad hoc relief of ten per cent.

Pensions revised upwards by 10 percent

In addition, the government set the minimum wage at Rs17,500 a month whereas the pensions were revised upwards by 10 percent. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government presented its first federal budget for fiscal year 2019-20, with an estimated outlay of Rs6 trillion, during a session of the National Assembly.

Wages:

• 10 per cent increase in salaries for government employees from grade 1 to 16, including armed forces employees
• 5 per cent ad hoc relief for government employees from grade 17 to 20
• No increase in salaries for civilian government employees from grade 21 to 22
• Minimum wage set at Rs17,500
• Pensions increased by 10 per cent
• Ministers agree to voluntary 10 per cent cut in salaries
