Targets in agriculture sector could not be achieved, admits Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has admitted that the targets could not be achieved in the agriculture sector. Unveiling the Economic Survey on Thursday, he said: “The agriculture target was 3.9 percent, while production decreased by 0.19 percent,” he said. The minister said that the GDP suffered a loss of five percent due to a 28pc decrease in the production of cotton. “The agriculture sector also suffered a loss due to a decrease in prices in the international market,” he maintained. He said that they would try to give a package to agriculture. Ishaq Dar said that the power generation had increased by 12.1 percent during the current fiscal year. He said that the Railways improved by 13.8 percent, while the wholesale sector witnessed growth by 4.57 percent. The minister said that the industry, automobile, construction, banking and services sectors also made progress.
