Five killed, scores injured in rain-related incidents in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – Five people were killed and scores injured in different rain-related incidents in Karachi on Monday. Several incidents of roof collapse and electrocution were reported during the rain. Traffic was badly disrupted due to incessant rain. During the rain, power supply to different areas was suspended. Vehicles were stuck up for hours due to traffic jam on all roads. A majority of roads and areas gave a pond-like look. All the low-lying areas submerged due to the rain. Several trees were uprooted during the rain. Citizens had to pay the price for the negligence of the Local Government Department. They said that the drains overflowed because garbage could not be removed from there. On the other hand, emergency has been declared in all hospitals of KMC and holidays of the employees have been cancelled. According to the Met Office, maximum rain of 42mm was reported in Sadr area. PAF Base Faisal received 26mm, Nazimabad 22mm, Base Masroor 12mm and Old Airport 10mm. The Met Office said that the rain spell will continue till July 8.
