Flood alert issued as India releases water into Pakistani rivers

LAHORE (92 News) – India released water into Pakistani rivers as danger of flooding has been increased in the adjoining areas of the villages located at the banks rivers. As per details, several villages in Pakistan were flooded after India released water in River Ravi, River Sutlej, and River Chenab. The water surface of River Chenab continuously increasing and the flood alert warning issued at head Qadirabad. The Flood Forecasting Division Lahore (FFD) had earlier issued a flood alert in River Chenab at Marala and downstream, River Jhelum at Mangla, Rivers Ravi, and Sutlej along with associated nullahs of Rivers Chenab and Ravi. The administration is taking the precautions for avoiding the loss from flood. These villages are being evacuated by rescue teams and the residents are being taken to relief camps on higher ground. According to Ministry of Water and Power, water level began to rise suddenly in rivers near Kasur, Narowal and Marala due to excessive water released by India. A high flood in Nullah Dek was reported near Chahoor in Pasrur tehsil after India released water from its reservoirs. Hundreds of acres of crops were also destroyed in Shakargarh city. According to Ministry of Water and Power, water level began to rise suddenly in rivers near Kasur, Narowal and Marala due to excessive water released by India. India opened gates of Ferozepur Headworks which resulted in the rise of water by two feet in Ganda Singhwala area near Kasur. The Indian action to release water from its reservoirs comes days after Indian authorities revoked its decision to accept Pakistan’s proposal for a meeting between the foreign ministers on the sidelines of UNGA in New York. Following, Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat had threatened to take limited military action against Pakistan Army saying it is time to give it back to them in the same leaving aside the kind of barbarism they had resorted to. Responding to Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat’s irresponsible statements of teaching Pakistan a lesson, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major Gen Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan is an atomic power and is prepared for a war. Reacting to a statement of the Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat on Saturday, he said that Pakistan’s wish for peace should not be considered its weakness. “A war is launched when someone is not ready for it. We are ready for the war, but want to move towards peace,” he declared. The DG ISPR said that the Indian Army chief’s statement is inappropriate. He said that several movements for independence are going on in India. “In addition, the Indian army is facing corruption charges. It is issuing such statements to divert attention from the corruption allegations,” he said.
