Flood emergency declares in Balochistan’s Lasbela

QUETTA (92 News) – In Balochistan, flood emergency has been declared and Army called-in in district Lasbela after flash flooding caused by torrential rains in the area. According to Deputy Commissioner of Lasbela, rescue operation is in progress to evacuate some 200 families trapped in a village in the district. He said the torrential rains and flash flooding also damaged Mulaar Bund in the area. He said four helicopters of Pakistan Army will also take part in the rescue and relief activities today. Meanwhile, the Provincial Home Minister of Balochistan, Ziaullah Longove visited rains and flood-hit areas of the province. He said relief goods have also been despatched to the affected areas. Meanwhile, widespread rains were recorded in different areas of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. The Met Office forecasts more rain during the week till Friday. The Met Office,  in a last week press statement , said: “Widespread rain-thunderstorm (with few moderate to scattered heavyfalls) is expected in Balochistan, while at scattered places in Sindh on Tuesday (evening) to Thursday. While in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir till Friday.” A bridge linking the RCD Highway collapsed on Wednesday due to high water level which suspended the road link between Quetta and Karachi. A long queue of vehicles is stuck in a traffic jam because of the problem. The flood water has also several entered residential areas.
