ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The flour price has been increased up to Rs20 per kg due to worsening crisis across the country. In Lahore, mill owners have announced to sell four at Rs70 per kg. The authorities have ordered the ‘naanbis’ to reduce the roti price within five days. The mill owners have feared more increase in the flour price. They said that the price had been increased after an increase in the wheat price. The flour available at Rs1,800 per maund in the beginning of the year will now be available at Rs2,800 per maund. The Punjab government will import three million tons to deal with the crisis. In Karachi, shopkeepers are selling four at Rs65 per kg. In Peshawar, ‘Naanbis’ have decided to increase the price of ‘roti’. In Upper Dir, hundreds of people staged a demonstration against the increase in the flour price. Citizens said that they were already unable to make both ends meet and the hike in the flour price had made their life more miserable. “On the one hand, the government is opening utility stores to provide a relief to the masses and it has become impossible for the poor to take two-time meal on the other hand,” they said. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken notice of the increase in the flour price. He has assigned the task of reducing the flour price to Jahangir Tareen and Khusru Bakhtiar. He directed the both figures to consult the chief ministers of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this regard. The federal government has decided to provide 100,000 tons of wheat from the quota of the PASSCO.
