FM Bilawal Bhutto calls for efforts to promote peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has asked the United Nations leadership to make concerted efforts to promote a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions and wishes of Kashmiri people.

In a letter to the President of UN General Assembly and President of UN Security Council, the foreign minister said that the role of UN entities assumes even greater significance in the pursuit of lasting peace in IIOJK while averting the threat to peace in South Asia. “Thousands of Kashmiris including women and children have lost their lives at the hands of Indian barbarism. Generations of Kashmiris have known nothing except violence and tragedy at the hands of Indian occupation forces who have gone to all extremes to crush freedom spirit of Kashmiris.”

He said that prominent Kashmiri figures have been arbitrarily detained or embroiled in fake cases and Pakistan has already shared its serious concern on conviction of key Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik who is in poor health.
