FM Qureshi arrives in Washington for a day before UNGA session

WASHINGTON (92 News) – Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who is in Washington arrives in New York tonight and will lead Pakistani delegation at the UN General Assembly session. During his one stay in Washington, the foreign minister is scheduled to visit Pakistan's Embassy in Washington on Sunday. He would address the Pakistani business community and will also meet members of the business community as well as journalists. Shah Mehmood Qureshi is also expected to visit his American counterpart, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, during his official trip to the United States. UN General Assembly will hold a high-level plenary meeting on global peace tomorrow as part of centenary birth celebrations of Nelson Mandela. The assembly will begin annual debate on issues of war and peace on Tuesday. The foreign minister will reach in New York on Monday to attend the UN General Assembly's 73rd session, where, he would be heading the Pakistani delegation. He would address the UNGA on September 29 (Saturday), Indian Foreign Minister will also address the UNGA on the same day FM Qureshi will set out the new government's priorities and its position and policy on key international and regional issues including the situation in Indian-held Jammu Kashmir. The FM will also attend several high-level events and hold around two dozen bilateral meetings. Pakistani Envoy to US Ali Jahangir said that the visit of the foreign minister is very important, saying that it will enhance the bilateral relation between both the governments. Earlier, the foreign minister had left for US on Friday, accompanied by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, for a week-long visit to the UN headquarters. Prime Minister Imran Khan would not attend the UNGA session in order to focus his attention on the country’s economy and local problems.
