DOHA (92 News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called on Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad in Doha on Saturday. Zalmay Khalilzad apprised FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi of the latest situation about the peace pact. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that after the today’s agreement, Pakistan hopes intra-Afghan talks. He said that Afghanistan will need the international community for reconstruction of Afghanistan. “Pakistan will continue its efforts for permanent peace and stability in Afghanistan,” he said. The US-Taliban agreement gets signed, then Afghanistan, which has been at war since American bombings began in response to the Sept 11, 2001 attacks, will witness the potential end of violence that has claimed tens of thousands of lives. Saturday’s deal could be the first step towards resetting Afghanistan’s future as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is set to sign the agreement on a withdrawal of American troops and prepare the ground for a political settlement between the warring sides. Some senior commanders of the Taliban who arrived in Doha for the signing ceremony said they will ensure that the US and Afghan governments accept all the conditions laid down by the group that controls about 40% of Afghanistan, according to Afghan defense officials.
