FM Qureshi, OIC secretary general exchange views on changing situation in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke with Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) Secretary General Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen to exchange views on the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan.

During the conversation, the minister underscored Pakistan will continue to play a constant role in peace and stability in Afghanistan. He expressed the hope Afghan parties would work for an inclusive political settlement.

Qureshi emphasized it was imperative for the international community to remain engaged with Afghanistan.

The OIC secretary general apprised the foreign minister of the extraordinary meeting of the OIC Executive Meeting that has been convened in Jeddah at the level of Ambassadors/Permanent Representatives to discuss the situation in Afghanistan on August 22.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephonic conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Qureshi said that a peaceful Afghanistan is critically important for Pakistan and the region. "Both Pakistan and Russia as part of troika contributed to facilitate peace. It is essential for the world to support Afghanistan," he added.
