FM Qureshi reaches Iran to attend 2nd meeting of Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi reached Iran to attend the second meeting of Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan.

Ambassador of Iran Mohammad Ali Hussaini, Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran Rahim Hayat Qureshi and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the foreign minister on his arrival in Tehran.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi will meet his Iranian counterpart Dr Hussein Amir Abdullahian during his visit. Issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and the regional situation, will be discussed in detail during the meetings.

The meeting will be attended by Iran, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

The foreign minister is also expected to meet his counterparts of China, Russia, Iran and Tajikistan. He will hold talks with media representatives and present Pakistan's views on important regional and global issues during his visit to Iran.

At Pakistan’s initiative, the first meeting of Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan was held on September 8, 2021. The meeting concluded with a joint statement, reflecting neighboring countries’ approach to Afghanistan.

Pakistan believes that the neighbours have a direct stake in the peace, stability and prosperity of Afghanistan. It is, therefore, important to remain engaged with a view to evolving a coordinated regional approach. Pakistan will continue to support the international community’s efforts to promote the shared objectives of a peaceful, stable, connected and prosperous Afghanistan.
