FM Qureshi says collective efforts needed to counter Islamophobia

DOHA (Web Desk) – Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday said on Tuesday that collective efforts needed to counter Islamophobia. Addressing at the second Kuala Lumpur Summit Ministerial Meeting held in Qatar’s capital, FM Qureshi said Pakistan fully supported the Kuala Lumpur Summit, an initiative of Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad, bringing together five Muslim nations to achieve socio-economic development. He also said that Pakistan fully supported Kuala Lumpur summit aimed at enhancing Muslim nations’ existing potential for collective development and shared prosperity. The minister said the challenges of governance, development, climate change, terrorism and rising Islamophobia, warranted an integrated and comprehensive response. Shah Mehmood Qureshi said with juggernaut of globalization causing a civilizational and cultural erosion, it is imperative for the Muslim world to tread a cautious path. Muslim countries including Pakistan, Indonesia, Turkey and Qatar are participating in the ministerial meeting in Doha on invitation from Malaysia. The main summit will be held in Kuala Lumpur from December 18 to 21. Earlier in the day, FM Qureshi reached Qatar on a one-day tour. He will represent the country at Kuala Lumpur Summit to be held in Doha. Qatar Foreign Minister Chief of Protocol Ibrahim Yousaf welcomed him at Hammad International Airport. Pakistan High Commissioner in Malaysia Amna Baloch was also present on the occasion. On December 3, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had met newly-elected President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa and discussed bilateral relations, regional situation and matters of mutual interest. On behalf of Pakistani leadership and nation, the minister felicitated Gotabaya Rajapaksa on his election as the seventh President of Sri Lanka. Shah Mahmood Qureshi also handed over a letter of President Arif Alvi to the Sri Lankan President, inviting him to visit Pakistan. He expressed the confidence that under the leadership of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Pakistan-Sri lanka relations will gain further strength.
