January 29, 2018
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday rejected the petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan seeking to stop the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from investigating the party’s foreign funding. Announcing the verdict reserved last week, the IHC judge Justice Mohsin Hassan Kiyani rejected Imran Khan’s plea. The PTI chairman had challenged the jurisdiction of the ECP in party’s foreign funding case. In the previous hearing, Anwar Mansoor, the counsel of the PTI said that ECP was acting beyond its jurisdiction as it was neither a court nor a tribunal. He said that the documents about party funds could not be shared with everyone, adding that only the institution with authority can investigate the bank accounts. Anwar Mansoor had said that the ECP has become a party against the PTI on technical grounds.
