Foreign minister lauds British MPs role to boost Pak-UK ties

LONDON (92 News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Tuesday that British parliamentarians of Pakistan origin have key role in bringing the two countries closer. Talking to Pakistani-origin members of British parliament in London, he said the role of these parliamentarians has always been positive and commendable. The minister acknowledged cooperation of these parliamentarians in different matters of national interest, including economy, promotion of culture and the Kashmir issue. The British parliamentarians of Pakistan origin assured the Foreign Minister of their due role for upholding Pakistan’s security and safeguarding the national interest in other matters.
Qureshi, Pompeo discuss bilateral relations, regional peace
Shah Mahmood Qureshi – who is on an official visit to United Kingdom – had a telephonic call with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to discuss bilateral relations and regional peace and security.
Measures being taken by Pakistan as per NAP
Shah Mahmood Qureshi briefed his US counterpart about the measures being taken by Pakistan in accordance with the National Action Plan (NAP) and initiatives being taken by the government to carry out economic restructuring.
Pakistan taking for compliance with FATF action plan
He also spoke about steps that Pakistan has been taking for compliance with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) action plan. In this context, he highlighted the regulatory mechanisms that have been put in place to curb money laundering and terror financing practices.
Pak, US discuss reconciliation process in Afghanistan
The two sides also discussed reconciliation process in Afghanistan and expressed commitment to work towards bringing lasting peace in the region. The minister underscored the importance of a peaceful Afghanistan as vital for regional peace and stability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm resolve to play its positive role in this process and to support an intra Afghan dialogue. He also highlighted the Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity as a mechanism for strengthening bilateral relations between two countries and to have constructive engagement.
