Former MNA Jamshed Dasti arrested in oil tanker theft case

MULTAN (92 News) – Former MNA Jamshed Dasti has been arrested on the charge of kidnapping the staff of an oil tanker and taking away oil worth millions of rupees on Thursday. Earlier, the Chowk Qureshi police had registered the case against Jamshed Dasti and seven others, including his two gunmen, under sections 395, 365, 170 and 171 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). On Dec 24 midnight, according to the police, an oil tanker was going to Multan from Dera Ghazi Khan when it was stopped by a ‘police van’ near Muzaffargarh. After stopping the tanker, four men in Elite Force uniforms took the driver and his helper, along with the tanker to an unidentified place, where they thrashed both of them and transferred oil worth Rs4 million into another tanker. After three days, oil tanker’s owner approached District Police Officer Nadeem Abbas with the tanker’s driver and informed him about the incident. The DPO constituted a team headed by City DSP Azmat Gurmani which traced and arrested Farrukh Shehzad, a policeman, who confessed to have committed the crime. During investigation, Farrukh told police that former MNA Jasmhed Dasti and his men had also been involved in the crime since long. On the basis of his statement, the police booked Dasti and others and arresting UC former chairman Ajmal Karlo and Abid Malana.
