Four arrested for torturing women on theft charge in Lahore

LAHORE (92 News) – The Batapur police have arrested four accused in a case pertaining to torture and mistreatment of two women on theft charges. According to the reports, the police arrested the four suspects including two shopkeepers who can be seen beating two women after accusing them of theft in a video circulating on social media. After taking notice of the Punjab chief minister, Batapur police arrested four accused identified as Adnan, Mukhtar, Bilaland Shabbir. The case was registered on behalf of Batapur police and Adnan and Mukhtar was nominated in the FIR. According to the police, the raids are being conducted to arrest the fifth accused identified as Anwar Chaudhry on the information of arrested accused. The video surfaced on social media in which the shopkeepers brutally torturing the women with a cane while others show two other mean torturing the duo and hurling expletives at them. On Wednesday, at least five shopkeepers from Jallo Mor Market on GT Road took two women hostage after accusing them of stealing merchandise from their shops and tortured them. On Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had taken notice of the incident after a video of the torture went viral. DIG Operations Shahzad Akbar said that the case has been registered against the shopkeepers and teams had been dispatched to arrest the accused. He said that no one will be allowed to torture the women. “The accused will be soon arrested and brought to justice,” he added.
