Four soldiers among 16 martyred as landslide hits bus in Skardu

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Four Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred when a landslide buried a passenger bus in Skardu district of Pakistan s northern Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to a statement issued by the ISPR, four soldiers embraced martyrdom, who were heading to their duty in the Skardu landslide incident.

The bodies of the soldiers were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Skardu.

The martyred soldiers were identified as Sepoy Sona Khan, Sepoy Asif, Sepoy Arshad and Sepoy Farooq.

It is pertinent here to mention that a passenger bus was heading towards Skardu from Rawalpindi got hit by land sliding in Skardu district of Gilgit-Baltistan region.

The bus was pushed into a deep ditch along the mountainous road in Skardu and buried under mud and rock.

Soon after the incident, rescue teams and security personnel reached the spot and launched operation to retrieve under the debris. The rescue operation has been completed and all dead bodies have been retrieved from the debris, according to the rescue sources. The rescuers removed 16 dead bodies from the debris.

Landslides after heavy monsoon rain are common in Pakistan, and are the cause widespread damage in areas of mountainous terrain.
