WASHINGTON (92 News) – US State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner has on Wednesday said that the United States has expressed optimism of friendly relations between Pakistan and India and urged both countries to normalize relations. Addressing a news briefing in Washington, he said that friendly relations between the nuclear arch rivals would be in the benefit of region. Toner said that both countries should put aside tensions for mutual interest and work towards de-escalating and establishing more normal channels of communication. “Pakistan has made significant progress on ending the menace of terrorism,” he added. Previously, US State Department Spokesman Mark Toner said yesterday that Pakistan and India should hold direct talks to reduce tensions. He said that the US encourages India-Pakistan dialogues to reduce tensions, adding that easing relations and practical cooperation is in the interest of both countries. The spokesman said that Pakistan is carrying out serious and effective action against terrorism, adding that Pakistan should take action against all terrorist groups. “Pakistan is making progress and taking steps to eliminate terrorism,” he added. “There is need to eliminate safe havens of terrorists.” Toner further said that Pakistan-Russian and US-India military exercises were not retaliation or a part of any great game, adding that the US has stepped up security cooperation with India.
