LAHORE (92 News) – The funeral prayer of police personnel, who were martyred in yesterday’s suicide blast in Raiwind near a police checkpost, was offered at Police lines Qila Gujar Singh in the provincial capital on Thursday. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Commander Lahore Corps Lieutenant General Aamer Riaz, Governor Punjab Rafique Rajwana, DG Rangers Lahore Major General Azhar Naveed Hayat and large number of people from all walks of life attended the funeral prayers. The martyred officers were identified as Muhammad Saeed, Aslam, Manzoor, Tanveer and Saeed and their bodies will be transported to their native towns for burial. On Wednesday, a suicide bomb blast ripped through a police checkpoint in Raiwind in the city of Lahore, killing nine people and wounding 18 others. The bomber attacked the police personnel who were checking the people arriving to attend the country's biggest annual religious congregation. Lahore is considered a cultural hub of the nuclear-armed nation of over 208 million people where Islamist militants have been fighting for over a decade against the state in a bid to install their own harsh brand of Islamic governance. The city has largely been spared the militant violence seen in the country’s northwest which sits at the edge of a lawless mountain range along the Afghan border. The Taliban leadership have fled to neighboring Afghanistan from where they plan and execute terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.
