Gen Syed Asim Munir assumes command as Pakistan's 17th army chief

RAWALPINDI (92 News) - General Syed Asim Munir assumed the command of the Pakistan Army as the 17th Chief of Army Staff.

A grand change of command ceremony was held at GHQ. Outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa handed over the baton of command to General Syed Asim Munir.

General Syed Asim Munir belongs to Frontier Force Regiment of Infantry. General Asim Munir is the first Chief of Army Staff to receive the Sword of Honour.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chiefs of Air Force and Navy participated in the ceremony, Forstar participated in the ceremony wearing General's shoulder rank and collar medal.

Political figures including federal ministers, chief ministers, federal secretaries, foreign ambassadors & high commissioners and other civil officials participated. Present serving, retired officers and cadets also participated in the ceremony, guard of honor was presented to outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Honour guards representing Pakistan in Japan, Turkey, China and other countries marched past. The GHQ Band, singing the tunes of national songs, gave a wonderful performance, the GHQ Band was led by Naib Subedar Muhammad Afzal.

Before the start of the ceremony, Army Chief General Asim Munir and retired Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the Martyrs' Memorial and recited Fatiha.
