General elections will be held by end of February: Maulana Fazalur Rehman

LAHORE (92 News) - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman has said that the general elections will be held by the end of February.

Talking to senior journalists on Thursday, he said that the conduct of the elections is immediate due to the present situation. "There will be difficulties in launching the election campaign in tribal areas," he added.

Maulana Fazalur Rehman said that there is no concept of the caretaker governments in democratic countries. "All parties, including the MQM and the BNP-Mengal, decided to conduct the elections immediately with consensus," he maintained.

He said that the PPP demanded tabling of the no-confidence motion at the eleventh hour. "The elections would have been held if the PPP had not deviated from the promise," he added.

He said that Pakistan is being targeted and pressurized from all sides. "Political and economic instability were introduced in the country by stopping the work on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project," he maintained.
