Gillani, Sanjrani vying to get required votes for chairmanship as Senate election tomorrow

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Sadiq Sanjrani, a candidate of the PTI and allies, and PDM candidate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani are vying to get required votes for the chairmanship of the Upper House.

The opposition enjoys the support of 52 members, while the government has 48 votes. The required votes for the victory will be 51.

The election will be held through secret balloting. Forty-eight newly-elected senators will also take the oath of his office on Friday.

Meanwhile, the government allies have authorized Prime Minister Imran Khan to nominate a person for the slot of the Senate deputy chairman. During a meeting on Wednesday, the allies had expressed their confidence in the leadership of Imran Khan.

The meeting discussed political situation and matters pertaining to allies.

The participants reiterated support for the person nominated for the slot of the Senate deputy chairman. They resolved to give the practical shape to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
