Government directs all INGOs to renew registrations in three months; aims to bring INGOs under laws

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The government on Tuesday in a Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif - led high-level meeting directed all international NGOs to renew their registrations, in an aim to bring all INGOs under the domain of relevant laws. As per the report, the meeting decided that all International NGOs operating in the country will continue to function for a period of six months within specified areas of operation allowed by the concerned authorities. It was further decided that International NGOs will complete the process of fresh registration within three months. The move comes days after the the government shut down offices of the international aid group Save the Children in the capital after sufficient proof against it of activities way beyond its mandate. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the group violated the charter under which it was allowed to operate in Pakistan. "No NGO will be allowed to work against the interest of Pakistan," he said.
