ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The government has announced to abolish the Pakistan Media Development Regulatory Authority (PMDRA).

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Federal Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said that no separate body is needed in the presence of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

"The government will hold consultation on the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016. "Chaos, threat and calling names should come to an end," she maintained.

The minister said that the media struggled for independence of freedom of expression for the last four years. "We are thankful to all parties who supported us in the difficult times," she added.

She said that the media makes the accountability of governments possible, which enhances performance of the government. "Legislation was done through ordinances by closing doors of the parliament. We all will have to come out of chaos jointly. It is our top most duty," she opined.

Marriyum expressed the resolve to work for the betterment of the masses under guidance of the media.
