Addressing a press conference on Friday, Adviser to PM on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Dr Ishrat Hussain said a company will run Pakistan Steel Mills and employees will be given the salaries of two and a half years.

He said that they would reduce the number of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees from 14,000 to 7,000. "Tax-evaders will be brought into the tax net," he added.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz said that the government had never promised to give jobs. "We had stated that an environment conducive for jobs would be created," he said.

He said that the damage was caused to institutions through political recruitments in the past. "The government is taking steps for betterment of the country, not popularity," he added.

Shibli Faraz said that the opposition parties should not put the lives of people at risk for ego. "Coronavirus is not a political matter, but a worldwide reality. We have to protect ourselves from it," he said.
