Govt ending subsidy on electricity for the rich on IMF demand: Ayesha Ghaus Pasha

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - State Minister for Finance Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha has said that the government is ending a subsidy on electricity for the rich of on the demand of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Talking to the media on Wednesday, he said that a subsidy cannot be given to all to reduce the circular debt. "The government will have to think about  the poor and for the progress of the country," she added.

The minister stated that the subsidy will only be given to the poor in the energy sector. "The country cannot afford provision of inexpensive electricity due to high production cost," she maintained.

She said that the government is trying to introduce reforms in the energy sector. "We hope good results in talks with the IMF," she added.
