Govt fails to get approval for Anti-Money Laundering bill
October 21, 2015
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – As the review talks between International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the government nears, the Finance Ministry failed to get approval for the Anti-Money Laundering bill from the Parliament. The rift in the government and opposition is widening with each passing day and the latter strongly opposed the inclusion of tax crime in Anti-Money Laundering Bill and rejected the bill during a meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Finance. Pakistan People’s Party Senator Fateh Muhammad Hassani said that the law is being introduced on the instructions of the IMF, adding it would be wrong to punish for tax return under money laundering law. Senator Kamil Ali Agha said that the Pakistan Muslim Leagues-Quaid has reservations over proposed law, adding that instead of punishing people under money laundering bill, the people should be punished under present law for failing to file tax returns.
