ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar said that the government has decided to make the sugar inquiry report public. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he said that the report would be posted on the website of Press Information Department (PID). He said that it had been stated in the report that Omni Group benefitted from the subsidy given to the sugar mills by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. “Prime Minister Imran Khan has been since day one that if a businessman enters politics he will do businessman. Farmers have been exploited from the purchase of sugarcane to procurement and sugar-making process,” he said. The special assistant said that JDW Group and ARY Group have the greatest share in the market. “Moreover, Tandlianwala Group, Sharif Group, Omni Group, Al-Moeez Group, Shamim Khan and Nauman Khan are the central share holders,” he said, adding that Al-Arabia Mills and Salman Shehbaz and Hamza Shehbaz are 25-25 percent shareholders. Shahzad Akbar said that deduction from farmers is an excess. “It has been informed in the inquiry report that how much cost is incurred on the sugar production. In 2017, the production cost was shown Rs51 per kg, but the forensic report shows it Rs38 per kg,” he said. He said that the Centre had not given the subsidy this year. “Imran Khan’s biggest achievement is to expose the sugar mafia. It is the business which is run by taxes paid by the government,” he said. The special assistant said that the middleman had also looted the farmer with both hands. “Sugar to be exported to Peshawar is sold out in Peshawar. The inquiry commission cannot place anyone on the ECL,” he said. He said that Khusru Bakhtiar does not own any sugar mill. “However, Khusru’s brother owns sugar mills. The PM has directed all advisers to submit their assets,” he said. Shahzad Akbar said that the institutions had been made hostage and a vigorous campaign would be launched after Eid to rescue them.
